Our first fishing competition was held in December 2003 to raise funds for the purchase and decoration of our new parish centre in West Gosford.  Organised by Paul Pereboeff, George Karmadonoff and Victor Bendevski, the inaugural competition was held at Deerrubbun Reserve on the Hawkesbury River and raised over $2000.  All subsequent competitions up until and including 2018 were held at the same location.

The second competition adopted an expanded format and was held over the weekend of 22-23 January 2005.  It also raised over $2000, all of which was directed to repayment of the mortgage on our parish centre.

The third competition continued with the expanded format and was held on the weekend of 11-12 February 2006.  The fourth competition was held on 11 February 2007.  Although fishing was limited to just one day, over seventy people participated and $2300 was raised.  The fifth competition was held on 9 February 2008.  For the first time, fishing outside the heads was allowed.  Of the proceeds raised, half was donated to Hawkesbury River Volunteer Marine Rescue.

Changes occurred in parish life and after February 2008 the competition was put on hold for a time.  It recommenced in February 2018.

The name of the winner of our fishing competition is inscribed on the prestigious Saint Panteleimon Russian Orthodox Community of Gosford perpetual trophy, arguably the most sought-after prize in the world of Russian Orthodox competitive fishing.  Winners of past competitions are:

2008: Michael Paramonoff

2007: George Gousev

2006: Tony Celeste – his catch was a jewfish weighing 27 kilograms
